Wooden poles

When looking at a building, the structure on which it is created is hidden to the eyes, structure which it is created behind any construction is the skeleton of infrastructure. This is true for any type of building if it is taken into consideration the durability. Also, in the wood construction there are taken into consideration their durability and resistance. Therefore, the support of the wooden building consists of many intersecting beams, which relies on a network of poles in columns. These posts have to be very resistant so they can support the entire architectural weight of the complex. The mandatory posts will have massive dimensions, and their essence will be very hard and resistant.

The posts are nothing more than the actual legacy of past centuries, in biblical times: "Finally, they settled pillars before the temple, one to the right and one on the left and gave them names: the right Iachin and the left Booz." “The two pillars with the two crowns on the tops of the pillars, and two networks to cover the two crowns, which were on the tops of the pillars " "Four hundred pomegranates put on networks, two rows of pomegranates for each network, covering the two crowns on top of the pillars."

They are found also in the ancient Greeks and Romans, in the protected temples by Doric or ionic columns. When using massive wooden pillars, because of they color shades and natural fibers, they are meant to be left insight, not to be covered by other finishing material. Especially in cases where it is a delicate process, artists using their specific techniques: foring, combination, sculpturing, carving. The pillars or columns are those elements arranged vertically in a construction project, with the next task support and an aesthetic role, immobilizing space. In the domain in which I work, when talking about pillars you imagine yourself in a rustic environment, part of the structure of a terrace or veranda, like the interior pilings of on house, like the chair`s legs or table, and especially as pillars of a gate from Maramures.

In the same time, the pilings can be found at the crucifixes that watch the crossroads, in the structure of gazebo, seen more and more often, in the house fences and as pergolas in gardens.
The most successful pilings are made from oak tree, because the sculpture on them can be realized at the highest qualitative level. We can see different folk motifs from Maramures, but also other motifs. They can have a variety of forms, from circular columns to the geometrical, squared, triangular, and hexagonal, depending on each ones creativity. The wooden poles create a safety feeling, exactly like the man is seen as a pole of the house, sustaining the weight of the familial micro-cosmos.
