Lecterns, Wooden pew

A lot of the work I do is for churches and monasteries. Although most of them are big works such as Maramures gates or altars, summer shrines or steeples, there is a special segment just for orders with church furniture. And here I refer to lecterns and pews. The lectern is a high mobile desk, on which are put the service books to be read at Mass celebration in the Orthodox Church.

The lecterns can be simple, beautifully carved on one leg with Maramures motifs and religious reasons or can be more complex ,composed of several plans, curbings, imprints, fretworks, all of which are harmoniously combined with manual sculpture. Lecterns that have the shape of a box are built like that so that in the empty space inside we can store in objects such as lamps or candles. Then these lecterns have an opening on the side or in front so that the believer can introduce money for memorial, candle or church. And on the top there is a space for the icon for worship.

The pews are similar to lecterns, like carved boxes that have over the top a truncated pyramid which rotates on a shaft and on each side of the truncated pyramid can be placed religious books that are read during the service. Inside the box, that is high and spacious enough, the service books are kept beautifully arranged on the shelves like in a library.

I remember that in such a pew I learned to read better and better, since the first grade, when my parents let me spend my summer vacation and the following years at a monastery. Here I participated in the monastery’s program, and when the brothers gave me something to read I needed a chair to see all the letter in the books, especially in the night masses.
Also pews are called in parish churches those special banks similar to those in school.

All the pews are called in parish churches especially those banks made in a similar way to those in schools. If these banks no longer serve for singers, they are placed the parish councilors.
Beautiful floral motifs can be sculpted on these pews and lecterns.
